One of the kids made this drawing of the logo for the Youth Center on one of the windows (it's also fall/Halloween-themed)
I have goals! I'm just not quite sure what they are yet. I love all three of my majors; I find them interesting, and I'm never bored. The honest problem with that is that there are so many things that I want to do! That's why I've taken so many classes here and acquired so many majors. I just love everything.Â
I used to want to work in Criminal Psychology. Before that, I wanted to be a detective, but then I discovered you can interrogate people without going to the Police Academy. I love working with people because I find them fascinating. Figuring out how the mind works and how different everyone is connects my majors together: the love of humanity.Â
While doing my internship at the Youth Center, I found out pretty quickly that I liked working there. Yes, the kids are little gremlins, and they agitate me sometimes. But I love talking to them and watching them figure out how to regulate emotions or figure out how to work things through on their own fills me with a sense of satisfaction. I talked to my internship supervisor, who runs our long-term recovery program, and I really liked how the system was set up. The environment seemed to promote recovery and how to come to terms with thoughts or feelings. It helped me know that I want to do something psychology-related with kids. Kids in juvenile detention are prone to recidivism outside, and I'd love to help them break the cycle.Â
