This section contains modules that focus on how to create and incorporate online modules into your classroom.
BACKWARD DESIGN AND THE FLIPPED CLASSROOM
Estimated time to complete: 80 minutes
This module introduces you to the backbone of my teaching philosophy--backward design and the flipped classroom. Backward design means that you focus on what you want learners to be able to do, and then work backwards from there to create course content that will give them the knowledge, skills, and abilities to accomplish that learning goal. The flipped classroom means that you spend class time practicing the learning goal, as opposed to lecturing about it.
Estimate time to complete: 80 minutes
This module explains how to create effective, engaging online modules, focusing specifically on: designing advance organizers, recording narrated animations, dividing animations up into segments, interpolating questions and prompts between segments to encourage generative activities, and providing learner control features. This is the module from the professional development workshop I hosted at the Academy of Management Annual Conference in July, 2021.
CREATING EFFECTIVE SLIDE DECKS
Estimated time to complete: 60 minutes
This module explains how to create slide decks whose visual structure matches the conceptual structure of the information you are trying to communicate. Cognitive information is chunked, nested, limited, and multimodal, and your slides should be, too.
