LEARNING WITH PRIMARY SOURCES

transform how you and your students think!

Mission

The Learning with Primary Sources website is a portal of ready-to-use activities and tools that can be used with students across disciplines and grade levels.

Our Belief

Learning with primary sources:

  • Engages all types of learners to continuously question and connect to their own and others' thinking.

  • Develops important skills of inquiry and analysis including: critical thinking, collaboration, student-driven questioning, communication (speaking & writing), and self-reflection.

  • Encourages better understanding of vocabulary.

Ultimately, students become independent thinkers and learners.

ABOUT PRIMARY SOURCE LEARNING

All resources were created as a result of grant funding to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in partnership with the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources (TPS) program. The TPS SIUE grant project is housed in the SIUE School of Education, Health and Human Behavior. As a Teaching with Primary Sources Consortium member, we focus on the effective use of primary sources, inquiry learning in K-12, and the positive effects it can have on student learning. All images, texts, and resources from this website should be credited and only used for non-profit purposes.
