Archipelagos are similar to islands except they are a massive group of islands, meaning it holds multiple islands. Archipelagos form when multiple volcanoes erupt on the ocean floor. This is called oceanic islands. Oceanic islands form when layers of magma builds up. During this process, the volcano is called a seamount. Overtime the volcano builds reaching the ocean surface, forming an island.
