“If you were going to construct the ideal diet for humans, what sort of metrics would you use…?
I would want…
all of the nutrients that we need to function optimally
in the most bioavailable forms
with the smallest amount of toxins.
It should have all of the vitamins, minerals, amino acids and other building blocks we need to thrive but none of the stuff that messes up our biochemistry or causes inflammation and cellular damage…
I believe that a nose to tail carnivore diet is the best solution to it."
Dr. Paul Saladino.
During the The Pleistocene Period, between 2 million and 85,000 years ago, ancient humans thrived off of the nutrient dense fatty meats of giant megafauna, mastodons and wooly mammoths.
Plant based foods were seasonal and scarce, particularly during the Ice Ages, leading researchers to believe that ancient humans primarily adhered to a carnivorous diet.
But how can we possibly survive on only meat?
Well, we can find modern parallels in populations like the Inuit and Masai tribes, who continue to eat this way.
Across the Canadian Arctic, the Inuit tribes thrive on seals, walruses whales and fish.
The populations show remarkably good markers of cardiovascular health and extremely low incidences of the modern diseases, including diabetes, osteoporosis, cancers, and heart disease.
"The data suggest that the traditional Alaskan Inuit (based on autopsy studies from the 1950's and 1960's) had around 1/15th to 1/18th the rate of death from ischaemic heart disease compared with the USA at the time."
"Diabetes mellitus was not detected in the 869 Eskimo National Guardsmen tested'[12]
Similarly, Hong Kong has the highest meat consumption in the world, and also has the longest life span!
The carnivore diet eliminates many toxins and anti-nutrients found in the Standard American Diet, thereby maximising your healing potential by providing you the most nutrient dense bioavailable foods on the planet.
Your cells need nutrients, and an inflamed gut makes it harder for you to get them.
The carnivore diet may challenge conventional nutrition, but it holds the key to maximising your health and well-being.
As the name suggests, the carnivore diet consists exclusively of animal foods. However, it's not limited to just meat, as some variations of the diet are more restrictive than others.
Muscle meat (preferably fatty cuts)
Organ meat
Eggs
Seafood
Fats
Bone broth
A2 dairy
Salt, pepper, and select herbs
Some argue, these items still come from an animal.
Milk
Yogurt
Cheese
Honey:
Coffee and tea: These are plant-based, but some people keep these in.
Vegetables
Fruit
Seeds
Nuts
Legumes
Bread
Pasta
Grains
Alcohol
Anything else that isn’t meat, poultry, or fish, or derived from one of those, is not allowed on the carnivore diet.
A small amount of beef liver can provide more than the Daily Value for many essential nutrients. It is low in calories and typically contains more vitamins than many fruits and vegetables.
Among organ meats, liver typically contains the highest protein content and best amino acid profile. They are also great sources of vitamin A and B vitamins.
Liver is also rich in minerals: zinc, iron, phosphorus, selenium, and copper.
The risks associated with eating beef liver include consuming too much vitamin A and copper.
Although vitamin A is essential for good health, a person can consume too much of it and risk vitamin A toxicity.
Liver Damage
Pressure on the Brain
Vision Problems
Skin Changes
Bone Pain
With liver, aim for 14 g daily (60 to 90 grams per week). Try to include an assortment of organs, including heart, testicle, bone marrow, tripe, kidney, spleen, pancreas, brain, intestine, etc.
Eating animal-based means sticking to mostly meat and organs, but also eating fruit, honey, and raw dairy, according to Saladino, who began promoting the diet in 2018.
It is the most lenient of the diets.
Eating a lion diet means you will only eat meat from ruminant animals (e.g., cows, deer, moose, sheep), along with salt and water.
It is the most restrictive of the diets.
The ketogenic diet involves consuming a very low amount of carbohydrates and replacing them with fat to help your body burn fat for energy. Health benefits can include weight loss and lowering your risk for certain diseases.
“Eating meat, organs, fruit, and honey sends a clear signal of abundance to your body. If you want healthy libido, body composition, sleep, mental clarity, and fertility, you probably want to send your body signals of abundance!”
- Paul Saladino, MD
That's for your body to decide... not you, but what your body can handle!
My body thrives on an Animal Based Diet.
I began my journey with a strict Lion Diet. That means, I only ate red meat, salt and water.
This gave my gut time to repair without plant toxins impeding the progress.
In this way, I was able to heal within 100 days only.
However, a permanent Lion Diet is not sustainable, as even Lion Dieter Mikhaila Peterson admits to taking Vitamin C and D supplements as well as electrolyte supplements for Magnesium, Calcium and Potassium.
You simply can't get enough of these essential nutrients and electrolytes alone on a Lion Diet without supplementation.
So my diet for the first 100 days and for the year following, was a Lion Diet 95% of the time, with the addition of Coconut, Avocado (both taken from the Keto Diet for their low carbohydrate properties) and Raw Honey.
High in healthy fats, low in carbohydrates and high in fibre, coconuts contain protein, small amounts of B vitamins and many important minerals.
Coconut water is also rich in electrolytes, potassium, sodium and manganese.
Containing 1.9g of protein, 1.9g of carbohydrates and 19.7g of fat per 100g, avocados are a great source of important nutrients and electrolytes: potassium (950 mg), calcium, magnesium (58 mg) and B vitamins.
Both coconut and avocado are both high in the plant anti-nutrient salicylate!
These simple phytonutrients are naturally found in a variety of fruits and vegetables, such as Apples, berries, cherries, grapes, peaches, and plums and serve as “nature's pesticides.”
We must consider this, listen to our bodies and rationalise the plant's relative risk to its benefits.
I was still able to heal eating these on occasion. Too many and I would flare.
In this course, you may feel comfortable adopting some Keto friendly foods, however I strongly advise against the Ketogenic diet as a whole, as it promotes the consumption of a variety of vegetables, which we now know, contain a high amount of plant toxins. Spinach and Broccoli alone are permeated with oxalates and flavonoids respectively.
While you are on this course, please avoid your greens while your gut is healing!
It might be worth mentioning that Carnivore is actually a subset of the Keto Diet. A Ketogenic Diet aims to minimise carbohydrate consumption while the Carnivore Diet opts for zero.
Honey has been used in traditional medicine for centuries. It can treat conditions such as:
Eczema
Worm infestation
Eye infection
Constipation
Fatigue
Dizziness
Hiccups
Hepatitis
Wounds
I would even rub raw honey on my skin rather than use Betadine to fight the infection.
