For my Studio Production course, we were given the task to create our own live studio productions. After learning the basis of how this kind of show works, we were given roles for specific components of the studio. Once we were comfortable in our roles, we had to go out and find stories happening on SCSU's campus to record and edit.
Our productions had to be at least 5-7 minutes long, and we were expected to practice in our production facility outside of class to work on our communication while recording. I was given the role of camera operator in our practice production, and in our final production I was given the role of floor director. I was also able to record multiple clips out on campus that were used in our final show.
This project was very beneficial to me because I learned a different kind of production that is much quicker and complexed then filmmaking. I also learned specific terminology that is helpful in a studio production. Trusting and listening to each other was a big part of the project as well because we had to have responsibility on each role we were assigned. This taught me the importance of communicating and planning effectively when in a group, and knowing when to take initiative to help your team succeed.
