At the end of the semester, shortly before our final sessions in the center, all interns were given one final major assignment: reflect on ourselves as tutors. Then, construct a tutoring philosophy paper detailing that reflection.Â
I reached back to one of the articles I examined earlier about the importance of laughter in tutoring sessions and incorporated that research into parts of my philosophy, but my analysis and experiences are my own.
This philosophy was most integral to clarifying my own development across the semester. The advancements I had made crystalized in the writing, and while there are certainly revisions I can make both to the paper and to my own philosophy, I was satisfied with my process. For the professor, it helped them understand my changes as a tutor more explicitly while providing them one more opportunity to give direction to my intended end goal.
