I am currently working as an embedded tutor in three ENGWR 80/300 corequisite classes at Cosumnes River College and one ENGWR 300 class, both of which are transferable college composition courses. Having just transferred to Sac State with my English AAT and with plans to become a college professor, I wanted to broaden my experience tutoring on a different campus. The University Reading & Writing Center (URWC) will not only allow me to help with writing in other subjects than English, it will also give me valuable experience at a four year university with a larger variety of students. English 121, a semester-long course students can enroll in to receive regular tutoring while also earning college credit, is offered in the URWC, but peer tutors are available to everyone on campus by appointment or drop-in. Based in Calaveras Hall 128 on the Sac Sate campus, the URWC offers tutoring from the third semester onward to assist with all types of reading and writing difficulties. As a peer tutor, I would be tasked with providing feedback but also encouragement and support to students who came in to seek help. Whether the student needed help with planning an essay, understanding how to structure an argumentative paper, or processing an assignment's instructions, my job would be to guide them forward in their educational journey. Hopefully, throughout the semester, I would be able to instill confidence in the students I met and build or improve upon a strong foundation of reading and writing skills.
