My overall goal for this internship is to gain a greater variety of experiences with tutoring English reading and writing: across a greater variety of subject matters outside of English classes, with a greater variety of students who have diverse needs at different levels, and on a greater variety of assignments that require reading and writing expertise. By the end of the semester, I would like to have shaped this increased experience into a more comprehensive approach to tutoring applicable to all sorts of subjects, students, and assignments.
My specific goals are as follows:
I would like to improve the personalized assistance I give to students via Zoom appointment by creating more opportunities for laughter. I believe that creating a positive association with receiving help at the URWC will encourage students to make use of the service, so I want to aim for making at least three students laugh over Zoom by the end of the semester.
Since I help students with subjects other than English, I want to expand my understanding of the different formats beyond MLA format. By week 12, I want to learn general formatting and citing for both APA and Chicago style.
As my exposure to different students grows, so too does my need for exposure to different English teaching approaches. Therefore, I would like to observe (at least partially) two fellow tutors and how they provide feedback in the URWC.
