Biography
Dr. Koustuv Ray is currently designated as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. He specializes in heterogeneous catalysis, computational modeling using Density Functional Theory (DFT), and machine learning-assisted catalyst design, with a strong emphasis on sustainable energy and environmental technologies. His research integrates advanced experimental techniques with in-silico modeling to develop efficient catalysts for CO₂ hydrogenation, dry reforming of methane, and biomass valorization.
Dr. Ray received his Ph.D. and M.Tech in Chemical Engineering from IIT Kanpur, where he graduated with top honors. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed international journals and has delivered invited talks at prominent conferences and workshops. His group is actively involved in several sponsored projects funded by agencies such as ISRO, DBT-BIRAC, DST, SERB, and MNRE, focusing on CO₂ conversion, biogas utilization, and catalyst development for green chemical processes.
In addition to research, Dr. Ray is deeply involved in teaching core undergraduate and postgraduate courses such as Chemical Reaction Engineering, Petroleum Refinery Engineering, and Computer-Aided Process Engineering. He also mentors Ph.D., M.Tech, and B.Tech students, and has played key roles in academic and administrative responsibilities within the institute. Through his interdisciplinary approach, Dr. Ray aims to contribute to the global transition toward cleaner and more sustainable chemical manufacturing.
