Philosophy & Objectives
Lassen Community College Registered Nursing Philosophy
Lassen Community College Associates Degree Registered Nursing Program integrates evidence-based nursing, providing the basis of professional practice. Professional practice is the provision of care in primary, secondary, and tertiary health care settings focusing on the health-illness continuum. Art and science of nursing establishes the basis for a systematic approach to holistic collaborative care based on evidence-based practice. Best practice includes an awareness of cultural, ethical, social, policy, and regulatory environments. Graduates of the nursing program accomplish professional practice through their roles as competent care providers, educators, and leaders. The faculty has a responsibility to provide nursing education through a variety of pedagogical approaches with a strong emphasis on technological strategies. Students learn optimally in an atmosphere immersed in humanism, innovation and technology.
Faculty recognizes and embraces different learning styles and offers resources to assist each style. Learning environments are flexible, dynamic and student-centered allowing for free exchange of ideas. The faculty believes in lifelong learning and modeling leadership within the profession. Faculty are mindful in recognizing barriers in the student's educational journey and connecting students with appropriate support systems on campus and in the community as needed. The nursing program aims to encourage students to be citizens of the world. We encourage students to embrace differences in each other, society, and other countries. Our goal is to expose our students to diverse societies, offer them opportunities to expand their worlds, change their lives, and shape their futures as leaders of global healthcare. Faculty members are challenged to become more intentionally global and creative in meeting the demands of the world’s population.
Program Learning Outcomes
Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) embody the knowledge, skills, behaviors, and attitudes necessary of the student, upon graduation, to display readiness for the National Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX-RN) and entry level practice as a Registered Nurse in California. The PLOs also reflect the mission and philosophy of the nursing program. They frame a curriculum that supports diversity, culture, and inclusivity and prepares a graduate who is able to serve the healthcare needs of a culturally and ethnically diverse population, in a sensitive manner. The PLOs also reflect readiness for furthering one's education in a bachelor program of study to attain a Bachelor Degree in Nursing (BSN).
Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) are the impetus from which the nursing courses develop course Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs). Faculty design weekly learning activities and modules to assist students in meeting Student Learning Outcomes. These SLOs are leveled, from simple to more complex, as the student progresses through the 2-year curriculum. At the final exit course in the nursing program, NURS 16 Comprehensive Review, students participate in a number of assignments, clinical performance testing, projects, and standardized examinations. These evaluations demonstrate competencies and provide aggregated data to determine the level of achievement the Program Learning Outcomes were met.
PLOs embody elements from the:
National League of Nursing (NLN) Educational Competencies of the ADN Nurse
Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN)
National Patient Safety Goals
NCLEX-RN Test Blueprint
Nursing Process / Clinical Judgment Model
Program Learning Outcomes:
The graduate will integrate physiological and psychosocial concepts, along with clinical judgment to apply nursing process and provide quality, safe, patient centered care.
The graduate will promote and maintain a safe environment by integrating current evidenced based practice, information technology, and skill competency to deliver quality health care.
The graduate will therapeutically communicate and collaborate with culturally diverse patients, families, and the interprofessional health care team to achieve quality patient centered care.

Program Cost
Financial Aid and Scholarships
Financial Aid is dedicated funding that assist students with the costs of attending college, it is meant to help students achieve their academic goals. Funding sources include the Federal and State government as well as other public and private entities. Every student interested in receiving Financial Aid is first required to fill out a FAFSA- Free Application for Federal Student Aid on the web every academic year. The on–line application is found at www.studentaid.gov ; this is the only viable website to file a FAFSA. (The school code for LCC is 001217.) Each student receiving Financial Aid is expected to enroll only in classes/courses that are needed to complete their education goal at LCC.
Eligibility Requirements
1. Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the U.S. Department of Education to establish eligibility.
2. Have demonstrated financial aid eligibility according to federal and state regulations.
3. Have a high school diploma or the equivalent. Students who do not have a high school diploma or the equivalent may not be eligible for federal financial aid, but may be eligible for state and locally funded aid programs.
4. Enroll in an eligible program to complete an associate degree or an eligible certificate program or transfer requirements. Most forms of financial aid are only available to students enrolled in an eligible program.
5. Declare a major and obtain an education plan as approved by a Lassen Community College counselor, which must be on file.
6. Most important!! Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress (SAP). Once a student’s aid has been verified and awarded it is the student’s responsibility to maintain SAP in order to keep their eligibility for Federal financial Aid.
Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
Lassen Community College complies with federal requirements to monitor financial aid recipients’ SAP toward a declared and eligible educational objective of an associate degree, certificate or transfer to a baccalaureate degree granting institution. Students receiving financial aid are expected to maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0, and to successfully complete each course that they attempt .Also students are expected to complete their educational goal within a reasonable timeframe. Beginning July 1, 2012 the maximum lifetime eligibility to receive a PELL grant has decreased from 9 full time years to 6 full time years. In accordance with Federal Student Aid regulations, SAP procedures measure each student’s progress three unique ways qualitative, quantitative and incremental. Student’s failure to maintain SAP will first result in a semester on warning, if the student fails to meet SAP the next semester the student will be placed on Financial Aid Suspension along with disqualification of receiving Federal Financial Aid previously awarded. LCC has an appeal process that exists for those students who have had extraordinary and unexpected circumstances which caused the failure to maintain SAP.
Estimated Cost of Attendance (COA)
The table below is an estimate of the average annual cost of attendance (COA) at Lassen Community College. These are estimated and averaged costs as provided by the California Student Aid Commission with the exception of Fees and On Campus Housing, which are actual. The Student COA cannot be exceeded by the sum of all aid the student receives for the academic school year.
