Emergency Medical Technician
The Lassen Community College Emergency Medical Technician program covers all techniques of emergency medical care and transportation of the sick and injured within the responsibilities of the Emergency Medical Services Authority requirements referenced in Title 22, Division 9, Chapter 2, Article 1 of the California Administrative Code. Upon successful completion, the student will be eligible to take the Certification Exam for Emergency Medical Technician - B (Basic).

Entry Requirements
EMT 21 Emergency Medical Responder
Recommended Preparation: Successful completion of ENGL105 or equivalent multiple measures placement.
EMT 60 Emergency Medical Technical 1 (Basic)
After registering for the Emergency Medical Technician Program the student will:
Verify possession of a valid BLS CPR card from ASHI or AHA.
2. Verify that he or she doesn’t have a criminal record and can work in a health care setting.
3. Provide documentation of recent two step tuberculosis testing or equivalent.
4. Provide records of vaccinations or titers required for entry in to clinical environments.
EMT 61 Emergency Medical Technical-B (Basic) Refresh
For State/Local EMS Authority Recertification student must hold current EMT-B certification or a certification that has been expired for no more than one year. Must possess a valid CPR card and demonstrate ability to perform CPR skills to current ASHI or AHA standards

EMT 21 Emergency Medical Responder
This course meets public safety standards published by U.S. Department of Transportation’s Emergency Medical Responder curriculum. The course will prepare the student for certification (two-year) by the Northern California Emergency Medical Service.
EMT 60 Emergency Medical Technician 1 (Basic)
Covers all techniques of emergency medical care and transportation of the sick and injured within the responsibilities of the Emergency Medical Services Authority requirements referenced in Title 22, Division 9, Chapter 2, Article 1 of the California Administrative Code. Upon successful completion, the student will be eligible to take the Certification Exam for Emergency Medical Technician - B (Basic).
EMT 61 Emergency Medical Technical- B (Basic) Refresh
A 24 hour course that provides, to the certified EMT-B (Basic) student, a review of didactic knowledge and practical skills required to re-certify, as outlined by the State of California regulations. For EMT-B’s who are maintaining certification with the National Registry of EMT’s (NREMT).

Program Clinical Requirements
The following proof of vaccination is required for clinical clearance to ensure your safety and the safety of the patients you will be serving. Keep copies of all compliance documents and do not turn paper copies into any staff member.

Tuberculosis (TB) Screening
Immunizations
Hepatitis B:
Three doses of Hepatitis B vaccine with 4 weeks between doses or positive antibody titer is required.
If not already completed a declination form will be signed.
Measles, Mumps, and Rubella:
Two doses of MMR vaccine or a positive antibody titer is required.
Tetanus/Diphtheria/Acellular Pertussis (Tdap):
One dose of Tdap vaccine is required within the last ten years. Td is not accepted.
Varicella (Chickenpox):
Two doses of Varicella vaccine or a positive antibody titer are required.
To have had chickenpox as a child may not be sufficient protection against the disease and a titer is therefore necessary to prove immunity.
Covid-19 Vaccination:
All EMT students must be vaccinated against Covid-19 in accordance with clinical site policies.
Students are considered fully vaccinated after the initial series, FOLLOWED by the booster vaccine.
If students decline Covid-19 Vaccination they must sign and submit the Covid-19 Declination form.
All students must submit to Covid-19 vaccination per clinical facility request.
Influenza Vaccination:
All EMT students must be vaccinated against the seasonal influenza virus once the vaccine becomes available.
The new flu vaccine is released each fall and should be received once available.
This is an annual requirement for all EMT students dependent on clinical site requirement.
If students decline Influenza Vaccination they must sign and submit the Influenza Declination form.
Student responsibilities
The EMT students is expected to:
Be responsible for all assignments given in the classroom or clinical area.
Be prepared for classroom and clinical assignments.
Be on time for class and clinical.
Be responsible for own transportation to the clinical facilities.
Respect and keep all information regarding the patient confidential. No printing from clinical sites, visiting, or calling to gain information for assignments.
Refrain from smoking or use of smokeless tobacco or devices during class or clinical rotations.
Report any prescribed drug therapy occurring at any time during the program to the Nursing Director.
Limit telephone conversations to break and non-class times.
Cellphones must be turned off in locker and/or left in car during clinical.
Comply with all Lassen Community College policies and regulations regarding students.
While in the clinical setting, comply with all clinical facility rules governing employees and students.
Show respect to each patient, classmate, instructor, and all employees at clinical sites.
Any reason for concern for the students well-being by instructor may result in a referral to LCC behavior health services.
Remember this is a drug-free environment, and should be drug-free career. Abuse of alcohol and/or illegal drugs is unprofessional. Proven violation, including incarceration, will result in disciplinary action, up to the possibly including dismissal from the program at the discretion of the nursing faculty.
