We usually meet at the first location about 10am. This year, 2026, it's Saturday June 20th. It's Fish for free weekend and you don't need a fishing license. Bring a bucket with a lid if possible. There will be big nets to share. maybe bring a clean dip-net for sorting and a clear container for pictures and some shoes you don't care about getting wet. If it's super hot, bring a styro and / or some ice.
1st spot is in an area called the playground. Located in the middle of the park. Come in from French Creek Rd. There is a restroom there. There is a paved walkway most of the way to the small creek we'll collect in.
Then you have to go back out to French Creek Rd. Go West to East River Rd. Go North to James Day Park at 2351 East River. Paul tells me he'll have placed a minnow trap the day before and we'll check out his catch and maybe drag a net in the French Creek.
Next, if you're up for it, we'll head for the Western edge of the county to the Vermilion River. Going to Bacon Woods in the Vermilion River Reservation.
X marks the spot!
