The honey harvest is here! Fresh from our family hives, this year's honey has been harvested and bottled, and we're excited to share it with you!
Born and raised in small town USA, I came from a family that survived hardship on two things: their faith in God and their self-sufficient lifestyle. My grandparents raised six children on low income using their knowledge of gardening, canning, and saving every penny that they could.
As a young child and then teenager, I dreaded those long days of picking, shelling and preserving peas and green beans or ripping fresh sweet corn off its stalks, shucking it on the tailgate of my dad's truck, spending long hours working until the job was done. But as I grew older, I began to see the value in having learned those skills.
I realized that not everyone had a family dynamic quite like mine. People had become overly dependent on the supply chains, forgetting how to garden, how to can their own food, how to hunt, and so many other things that were just a part of my life.
Now, I look back and thank God for giving me grandparents that taught us these skills and parents that made sure they got passed on, no matter how much I complained.
In 2020, COVID took the world by storm, resulting in massive closures of vast swaths of the economy. People were sent home from work. They lost income. They lost hope. Some lost faith.
I chose that moment to increase my faith. I'd always loved baking bread, something I got from my grandma. I felt a strong calling to bake loaves and place in the blessings boxes around my community.
I started with the one closest to my house, at the Goodyear Park. I placed four loaves of bread in the box and by the next day, they had been claimed. People made posts on Facebook groups about the bread, excited that someone had given to the community like that.
I increased my donations, reaching out to community organizers about other blessing box locations, and filled each box with fresh bread for weeks. I received donations from community members who said, Use this to make more bread for the community. I did that, and as I gave to the community, my business grew.
That is when Lifebread was formed.
Today, I have expanded my business to include the aspects of my farm that were previously only a hobby: honeybees, chickens, and rabbits, bread baking, including sourdough bread, and those preserves that were so instrumental in making me the person I am today.
I am blessed to serve my community as a small business, bringing homemade, real products to our market.
Last year, I built a farm stand and added that to my mini farm. I stock the farm stand with all of these wonderful products and more, with updates posted on my Facebook page, Lifebread Bakery.
I look forward to the continued growth of this business as more people seek out healthier, natural food options over the stilted system of our supply chain.
Thank you to everyone who has supported our business in the past, to those who are still supporting us, and to those who will come. We could not do this without you!
