This interactive website is an excellent resource for both students and teachers. It allows you to type in any word, and it will give you a definition, examples of the word used in a sentence, the origin, and more. I would use this as a resource available to students all the time. If they have a word they do not know during independent reading, they can go to the computer area and look up the word to give them a better understanding. This is instructionally valuable because it allows students to get a more in-depth understanding of words, and they can understand the fluency and comprehension better of what they are reading.
This lesson plan has many beneficial factors and is very useful in the classroom. It gives multiple standards, activities, videos, and worksheets. I would use this during vocabulary ELA lessons and ELA stations. The lessons would be explained by the teacher ad have guided and independent practice portions for the students to take part in. This is instructionally valuable because it gives students essential tools that will increase their vocabulary and help them grow in their knowledge.
This skill worksheet is beneficial for students in growing their vocabulary. It allows students to associate the word with a picture and recognize which picture it matches. I would use this in an ELA station so that kids could use this as one of their activities. This is instructionally valuable because it allows students to recognize a word and associate it with a picture.
This vocabulary book resource is a great instructional tool for all teachers. It gives insight into different ways to teach vocabulary, what words to teach, and how to shape your direct instruction. I would use this before any vocabulary lessons in the classroom. This would be used as an example for me as the teacher to reference during my lessons, but also for me to look at beforehand to help prepare my lesson. It is instrucitonally valuable because I can shape my lesson plans off of some of the ideas in the book, and I can improve my instruction through the tools the book gives.
This graphic organizer is a great instructional tool for students. It has a spot for the word and places where you can write the definition, draw a picture, use it in a sentence, and then give a synonym and antonym. I would use this for words that students were unsure of and have them look the word up and then fill one of the sheets out. I would do this so that students can retain information and remember the word when they encounter it the next time. This is instrucitonally valuable because it allows students to learn a lot about the word past, just what it means, and it allows them to retain the information about the word.
This playlist has many different songs on it, all with great instructional value. There are many songs on the playlist that I would use, but not for vocabulary instruction. I would play the vocabulary instruction songs in transitioning time or as the anticipatory set of a lesson. An example is the wheels on the bus song. This is an excellent example of a vocabulary song; it lights up the words as they are said so that students can see the written word as they hear it. Students can also sign along with the songs as they read the words or know them because they are familiar songs. This is an instructionally valuable tool because it allows students to associate the sound with the word they are seeing and helps them understand each word.
