The Lawson Learning Lab (LLL) explores how people learn and how we can design environments that promote meaningful, transferable learning for a wide range of learners. Our research sits at the intersection of cognitive science, instructional design, and human-computer interaction, with a focus on optimizing learning experiences both in traditional and technology-enhanced settings.
Our work is interdisciplinary, drawing from psychology, education, and computer science to better understand how different factors shape the learning process. We are particularly interested in how learning environments can be structured to support the transfer of knowledge—helping learners apply what they've learned to new situations.
There are three core research focuses of this lab:
Learning Strategies
Educational Technology
Individual Differences
At its core, the Lawson Learning Lab is dedicate to translating research into practice—bridging the gap between theory and real-world educational challenges to create learning environments that work for everyone.
