Kendra Danielle (she/her) is multi-dimensional creative and quilter who sews together elements of the African diaspora ancestry, spirituality, and traditions through her mixed media artwork, poetry, storytelling, and nature-based spiritual practices.
In her elementary years, Kendra began developing a relationship with the non-human species that she noticed were occupying the same earth as her. She began to learn the names of trees, birds, bugs, and flowers because acknowledging and learning who/what was living in community with her felt just as important as learning about her human neighbors.
This relationship with nature was nourished by her mother—an educator for 20+ years in the Little Rock School District—and her father —an outdoorsy fisherman, hunter, and inventor—who taught her how to interact safely and respectfully with the great outdoors. Her love and awe grew of the profundity of life that co-existed in nature, but the older she became the more she wondered if others noticed the diversity of life beyond humans. It was only in her 30s did she learn that the relationship she naturally formed with nature as a kid was the study of ecology.
A native of Little Rock, AR and a global nomad, Kendra opened this business inspired by her desire to help heal the relationship between people and the natural environment. By trade she is a nature educator, urban farmer, apiarist, farm animal specialist, plant medicine apprentice, curator of healing spaces for Queer, Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) and collage artist. Her work aims to center the needs of underestimated communities' health and wholeness and to dismantle oppressive systems that divide communities and harm nature.
Kendra uses the title quilter, to honor the quilting tradition of her grandmother and metaphorically describe her ability to connect people to places, forming new bonds, restoring old connections, and creating something beautiful and practical in the process. She truly desires to carry on the traditions of her ancestors and quilt a more inclusive and caring society through her art and community work.
