This portion of the property presents one of the greatest challenges in the landscape: intense, direct sunlight combined with the drying effect of nearby maple trees to the north. The result is a hot, dry microclimate where only the most resilient plants can thrive. With such a large space to fill, we focused on creating bold color impact, vertical interest, and year-round structure.
To provide evergreen height and help visually break up the long expanse of fencing, Arborvitae were planted at intervals along the boundary. These offer structure in all seasons while creating a strong vertical rhythm in the garden.
Between the Arborvitae, groupings of roses were planted—each section with its own color theme. Varieties in warm peach and orange, classic white, vibrant yellow, and soft to vivid pinks provide a constantly evolving display throughout the growing season, visible from nearly any part of the property.
To enhance the layered look and add bursts of seasonal color, Asiatic lilies were planted at the base of the Arborvitae. Their compact, colorful blooms bring a playful pop to the foundation of the garden.
While this section is still evolving, the combination of tough, sun-loving perennials and structural evergreens is creating a vibrant, colorful border garden that thrives in even the harshest conditions.
