To a lot of people, one of the most notable things about me always was that I was a professional hockey player. It is often the first thing my friends said when introducing me to someone. I am indeed, so much more than that, but this experience was extremely significant to the shaping of my life. My experience as a professional women's hockey player has solidified my desire to teach and inspire our youth. Due to the current climate regarding professional women's sports, our role is more to to be a positive example for young girls than it is to solely earn a paycheck. During my hockey career, I embraced this opportunity and through countless community engagement events, fan interactions, and camps/clinics. This allowed me to see the impact we are able to have with today's youth in allowing them to see a future in sport. This philosophy has translated well to my career as a physical educator, and my hope is that my students will learn to have the confidence to believe they can be anything they want to be. I have benefited from my experience in the sports world which has helped my transition into the classroom, and I can only hope to inspire my students to achieve their greatest potential on whatever path they choose!
