Dr. Laura Roy is a Board Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS), Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN), Certified Personal Trainer (CPT), and Certified Sleep Science Coach (CSSC) with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, a Master of Science in Functional Medicine and Human Nutrition, and a PhD in Nutrition and Diet Therapy. Her doctoral research explored how dietary patterns influence inflammation, oxidative stress, and metabolic health, which now forms the scientific foundation of her clinical practice.
Laura’s work in functional medicine nutrition began with her own health story. After experiencing chronic conditions such as premenstrual dysphoric disorder, chronic dry eye, interstitial cystitis, and postpartum depression, she was able to reverse or manage these issues through nutrition and lifestyle. Later, during her final term of graduate school, she was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition, which strengthened her commitment to helping others navigate complex and chronic health challenges.
With more than 14 years of experience as an educator, Laura brings a rare blend of scientific depth and teaching skill to her work. She spent over a decade teaching high school chemistry and developing a biomedical science academy before transitioning to higher education. She now teaches nutrition and functional medicine at the undergraduate and graduate levels, where she helps students understand the connection between biochemistry, physiology, and practical lifestyle strategies.
In her clinical practice, Laura works with individuals across a wide range of concerns, including metabolic dysfunction, hormonal shifts such as perimenopause and PCOS, autoimmune disease, fatty liver, insulin resistance, high cholesterol, hypertension, digestive issues, arthritis, and performance-focused nutrition needs. Her approach is evidence-based, personalized, and centered on sustainable habit change. She integrates nutrition, strength training, sleep science, and stress regulation to help clients create an internal environment where their cells and systems can function the way they were designed to.
A former competitive gymnast and lifelong athlete, Laura enjoys lifting, hiking, and staying active. She has a longstanding interest in sports nutrition and has worked with recreational and competitive athletes to improve performance, recovery, and metabolic resilience.
Laura is dedicated to helping individuals understand their bodies, make informed decisions, and rebuild their health from the cellular level up.
