The name of the project has arisen from the question “how can we create and launch a board game?”. As the title suggests, the aim for the project is to create and launch a board game into the market. However, there is something distinctive which makes from “a project”, “THE project”. In this case, kids and adults are going to work together during 12 weeks through asynchronous telecollaboration sessions (written and video recorded) .However, and despite the fact that they might work together, kids and adults will have different roles: kids will focus more on the arts and crafts parts, whereas adults will be more in charge of the business part to launch the product, making, for instance, an a commercial in order to make the board game appealing and successful.
Apart from this, there is even something else which makes the project distinctive. Adults and kids will not be from the same background, which means that apart from differing in ages, (kids will be in their last stage of Primary Education, while adults will be in their second year of college taking a course in marketing) they also differ in nationalities. On the one hand, we have an adult group of sophomore ESL learners at the University of Illinois (USA) whose proficiency level in English is advanced-mid, which is the minimum level expected of ESL students be accepted in this institution. On the other hand, we have a group of 6th graders EFL learners in Spain. Their proficiency level is expected to be around A2, since they already have a couple of years of English classes under their belt.
With this diversity, we pretend to encourage the English as a media of communication between both groups, emphasizing communication for real purposes.
As a whole, we pretend to work on communication (mother tongue/foreign tongue), the digital competence (a wide range of technologies will be used), sense of initiative and entrepreneurship (they will be the ones who will be responsible from their work, developing the sense of responsibility) and last but not least, cultural awareness and expression, as they will have to respect and appreciate the ideas of the others, as well as raise awareness of how different people can be, but how well they can work together and enrich their lives.
