Young people are the voice of tomorrow, seeking a brighter future for our Common Home. Creativity can light the way!
The Great Work of Art is an eco-art education project weaving faith and science with creativity and collaboration. Developed by the Cathedral Creation Care Ministry, this approach to the Laudato Si' encyclical explores biodiversity, climate change and environmental stewardship through creative hands-on art projects. Plants and trees, endangered species, habitats, oceans, recycling and renewables are among the themes expressed in paintings, mixed media, sculptures, pastels and the written word. Launched in 2022 at the Cathedral Parish School in St. Augustine, FL, The Great Work of Art pilot program was supported in part by the Catholic Climate Covenant Victory Noll small grants to advance the Laudato Si' Education Action Platform. We believe the beauty of art can save the world!
Take a Look! A collection of more than 250 manatee watercolors, endangered species pastel portraits, coral reef prints, mixed media "walking sticks" and Pinch Pots, along with poetry, written reflections and pledges was produced by students in grades k-8.
