We are Christ’s eyes, ears, mouth, hands, and feet – sent out to do justice, especially for the poor and oppressed, to minister to the needs of the community, to be faithful stewards of God’s creation* – awakening faith among the hopeless, and promoting life even within the culture of death.
In his 2015 Encyclical, "Laudato Si' - On Care For Our Common Home", Pope Francis appealed to all people to protect the beauty and natural resources of the Earth and to respond to the needs of the poor. The Cathedral Parish Laudato Si' Creation Care Ministry seeks to educate our parish and community on the principles of the Holy Father’s message and to assist in efforts to be more responsible in caring for God's creation so that all life may flourish.
*“Faithful stewards of God’s creation”: This intentionally echoes our vocation as stewards of God’s creation: “The LORD God then took the man and settled him in the Garden of Eden,to cultivate and care for it” (Gen 2:15). “As one called to till and look after the garden of the world (cf. Gen 2:15), man has a specific responsibility towards the environment in which he lives, towards the creation which God has put at the service of his personal dignity, of his life, not only for the present but also for future generations” (Evangelium Vitae 42). The committee was in agreement that the present “signs of the times” (Matthew 16:3) calls for the inclusion of a clear articulation of our vocation as stewards of God’s creation – our “common home” (See “Promoting life” and “Even within the culture...”below; Evangelii Gaudium 215, 216; Laudato Si).
On the occasion of the 5th Anniversary of the Holy Father's Encyclical, Father Tom Willis shares an important message and call to his Parish. www.thefirstparish.org

IN MEMORIUM
The Cathedral Creation Care Ministry is grateful for the gift of Pope Francis’s papacy and his encyclical on the environment, “Laudato Si’- On Care for Our Common Home.” Since its publication in 2015, an ecological conversion of hearts has occurred throughout the Catholic Church and among people of goodwill worldwide. The Pope's vision of ”integral ecology”— that everything is connected in a balanced web of life to be lovingly nurtured—launched a global movement of advocacy groups, ours included. Together, we promote actions that protect the earth from harm and over consumption, while seeking justice for the poor who suffer from ecological degradation. Pope Francis ignited a new appreciation for the wonder and beauty of God’s creation. We pledge to honor his “Franciscus” legacy to deepen our faith, strengthen our family and community bonds and reshape the future for the next generation. This is the defining work of our time. Please join us. Rest in peace, Holy Father.
"May our struggles and concern for the planet never take away the joy of our hope." ~ Pope Francis
