Led by SAR President General Mike Elston, this year’s Annual International Trip will take members to the United Kingdom and Bermuda, exploring historic locations deeply connected to the Founders of our nation and the global story of the American Revolution.
In the United Kingdom, participants will visit significant historic sites tied to America’s founding era. A highlight of the trip includes a special visit to Highclere Castle—world-famous as the home of Downton Abbey—where the current owner of the estate will be formally sworn in as a member of the SAR.
The journey then continues to Bermuda, where attendees will explore the history of the Bermuda Gunpowder Plot, a key but often overlooked event in Revolutionary War history. Guests will also have time to enjoy Bermuda’s renowned pink sand beaches and island hospitality.
This international trip offers a unique blend of history, fellowship, commemoration, and travel in celebration of America 250.

Come prepared to participate in a once-in-a-lifetime grand celebration for the SAR’s key signature 250th event, with many programs and activities planned over four days. Please read this entire email for all the event details.
Our motto for this celebration is “50 for the 250th” as we are aiming for every state society to be represented at this celebration. Imagine the public patriotic display of every state society’s flag carried high during each of the celebratory events. Make plans now to attend. You do not want to miss any of the events that are planned. Note that some programs and events have limited capacity, so register early to secure your spot.
You can access the event registration form at this link:
SAR Independence 250 Event Registration - https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/sar-250-independence-day
If you have questions or need help in navigating the registration form, please contact Registration Chair Bill Baker at wbaklava@aol.com.
Hotel reservations at the SAR group rate can be made at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown. Note that all planned events are within one mile of the hotel.
Make your hotel reservations at the following link:
SAR Independence 250 Hotel Reservation - https://book.passkey.com/go/SONSOFTHEAMREVOLUTION2026
The hotel room block is 80% full, so make your hotel reservations soon. We have expanded the room block twice and the ability to add additional rooms at the current rate is limited. Note that another day has also been added to the block, so you can now book rooms for July 1-6 at the group rate.
The celebration kicks off on Thursday, July 2nd, with a public reading of the Declaration of Independence at Independence Square, replete with a bell ringing and roll call of the Signers. This public event will be followed by a tour of the National Constitution Center and a new exhibit on America's Founding: From the Declaration and American Revolution to the Constitution and Bill of Rights. We will cap the day’s activities off with a welcome reception at Victory Brewing Company, located at 1776 Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
The SAR celebration kicks into high gear on Friday, July 3rd, with our participation in the official Salute to Independence Parade in the Historic District of the Old City. We are expecting a huge Color Guard presence at this event, visually representing the SAR and carrying all 50 state society flags. The Color Guard will be led by the President General and the official SAR float. The day’s activities will conclude at the SAR Independence 250 Gala Dinner, a special evening hosted by Ben Franklin himself.
On Saturday, July 4th, we will set up camp on the Independence Mall, where we will sponsor an SAR Showcase featuring events, exhibits and activities throughout the day. On the main stage, we will offer programs, interpreters and speakers, including an SAR 250 public commemoration and bench dedication. Under the big tent, we will promote SAR membership, our new Education Center and Museum and SAR programs for Youth, Public Service, Veterans and more. We will also offer a variety of interpretative and educational stations for youth, including Patriot chest presentations, enlistment of recruits to drill and muster with the Color Guard, and Signing the Declaration with a quill pen, among others. It will be a tremendous day and an opportunity to showcase what the SAR does best.
Finally, on Sunday, July 5th, we will hold a public Patriot grave marking ceremony for Five Signers of the Declaration of Independence including Benjamin Franklin at Christ Church. It will be a wonderful way to honor the contributions of these founders who pledged their lives, fortunes and sacred honor in signing the Declaration of Independence. Following the ceremony, we will tour the Museum of the American Revolution with a guided tour of its new special exhibit entitled The Declaration’s Journey, which traces the story of the Declaration from our nation’s founding to today. We will conclude the day with our Farewell Dinner at Glory Beer Bar & Kitchen, just one block from the museum.
In addition to your attendance, there are also several ways to support and promote the SAR Independence 250 celebration. There are several unique merchandise items ranging from challenge coins to cockades, which are included in the registration form. These items will also be available on the Independence 250 website in the near future.
You can also become one of 56 DELEGATES to sponsor the SAR Independence 250 celebration. Donors of at least $250 are awarded a special commemorative SAR Independence 250 medal. The Battle of Moores Creek Bridge- February 27, 1776
The Battle of Moores Creek Bridge, fought between North Carolina Patriot and Loyalist militia forces, demonstrates the bitter internal divisions that marked the American Revolution. The Loyalist, mostly Scottish Highlanders wielding broadswords, charged across a partially dismantled Moores Creek Bridge, nearly a thousand North Carolina Patriots waited quietly with cannons and muskets poised to fire. Expecting to find only a small Patriot force, the Loyalist advanced across the bridge. Shots rang out and 30 to 70 Loyalist lay wounded or dead, including Lt. Col. Donald McLeod, who led the charge. Stunned, outgunned, and leaderless, some of the Loyalist surrendered, while others retreated in confusion.
Moores Creek is the site of the first Patriot victory in the American Revolution and the site of the last Scottish Highland broadsword charge. The victory ended British authority in the colony and stalled a full-scale British invasion of the South for nearly four years. The resulting Halifax Resolves of April 12, 1776, instructed North Carolina’s delegates to the Continental Congress to vote for independence; it was the first American colony to take such action in writing.

It is my pleasure to invite you to the Spring Leadership Conference/Trustees Meeting which will be held at the Galt House Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky, on March 5-7, 2026.
National committees will primarily meet on Thursday and Friday. It is the responsibility of each chairman to notify committee members of the time and place of their meeting. The schedule of meeting times and places will soon be linked to this page and on sar.org. The Trustees meet on Saturday morning, and reports will be presented by national officers and committee chairmen. Please note that Kelly Moore must have your written report no later than February 9, 2026. The report form can be found on the SAR website here. Banquets are scheduled for Friday and Saturday evenings for your social pleasure.
For those interested in accommodations at the Galt House Hotel, the cutoff date for booking at the group rate is February 13, 2026. You can book your room here. If you need assistance with booking, I recommend contacting our Group Rooms Coordinator, Anna Krekel, directly at 502-566-3234 or akrekel@ajshotels.com. There are also many other hotels nearby such as The Brown, The Hyatt, Louisville Marriott, Homewood Suites, Holiday Inn Express, or Omni Louisville.
All meetings and meals will be in the West Tower of the Galt House for this Leadership; however, we recommend parking and checking in at the East Tower, as the SAR parking discount only applies to the East Tower garage (no discount on valet parking), and the check-in desk is more regularly staffed in the East Tower.
There will be a Welcome Reception for Leadership attendees in the DAISY ROOM on the 2nd Floor of the West Tower of the Galt House Hotel on Friday, March 5, from 4:00 pm-6:00 pm (EST). We need a headcount for this event, so please add it to your and your guest's registration if you wish to attend.
We have one pre-meeting form for you to review and sign (which can be completed electronically). It can be turned in to Compliance Officer Scott Collins, or to Kelly Moore in person upon arrival or at your earliest convenience. NOTE: if you already signed a Conflict of Interest form at the Uncasville Congress or at the Fall 2025 Leadership, you do not need to sign another until Congress 2026.
