EXPLORING THE FUNCTIONS

AND ENHACING THE ACTIVITES

OF BIOLOGICAL MOLECULES

Welcome

Welcome to the Langenhan Laboratory in the Department of Chemistry at Seattle University.

Founded in 1891, Seattle University is one of the Northwest’s largest independent universities, with a population of over 6,500 students. The Chemistry Department offers undergraduate degree programs in chemistry and biochemistry. As a department, we are committed to developing critical thinkers and compassionate leaders for productive careers in chemistry-related professions.

Undergraduate research is a vital component of our curriculum. All students are required to fulfill a capstone requirement that includes a seminar course in chemical literature searching and scientific writing, and a research project that culminates in a written thesis and an oral presentation. In addition to these requirements, many chemistry majors and students pursuing related fields of study perform research at Seattle University during the summer or pursue internships at major research universities and institutions.

The Langenhan group is pursuing research at the chemistry/biology interface. We redesign biological molecules with the twin goals of understanding their functions and modulating their activities.
