Welcome!
I live in Minneapolis with my dog, Opie. He loves school and has gone to several classes and trainings, most recently earning his Canine Good Citizen certification from the American Kennel Club. Opie is an aspiring therapy dog and has volunteer experience at a dementia care facility and at a BSA summer camp.
I am looking forward to working with you this year.
I've been teaching language arts at Southwest High School since 2019, following a brief career in the insurance industry.
Before my adventures in insurance and going back to school for my teaching license, I earned a BA in history. As a result, my English classes will often include analysis through a historical lens and/or a bonus lesson for building context for the novels we study in class.
I teach five sections of MYP English 9. After school I advise the student newspaper and literary arts magazine, The Navigator and The Siren, respectively.
I'm happy to be at SW and work with the student publications, a continuation of my own involvement and leadership with campus newspapers in high school and college.
Feel free to peruse my virtual bookshelf. Ask me if you have questions or want book recommendations.
