Lecture Synopsis
The purpose of this lecture is to introduce the basics of evolutionary quantitative genetics, including theory, statistical methods, and applications. This lecture will illustrate how to use variation in quantitative traits within and between populations to make inferences about the evolutionary potential of a population and to detect local adaptation. By the end of the lecture, you should be confident in using the basic quantitative genetic terminology including relatedness, additive genetic variance, heritability and genetic correlation. Further, you should acquire a basic understanding of the main statistical tools to estimate quantitative genetic parameters using pedigrees and common experimental designs. This lecture will also illustrate some of the most recent developments in quantitative genetic inference using genomic data.
