Time & Structure Artist Statement:
My work in ART 120 experiments with various digital software to support a broader contemplative process. What subject matter is important to me? What habits consistently show up throughout my creative process, even when working with unfamiliar tools? What media do I enjoy working with? This body of work is an investigation of all these questions. Be it visual or auditory work, these digital pieces reveal my tendencies as an artist, all while being an avenue for experimenting with unfamiliar forms of expression. Dabbling in these unknowns allows me to see what has gone unnoticed. My experience making digital art is minimal, and this class was my first introduction to Adobe software. Having mostly made traditional 2D art, the “Exquisite Comps”, digital collages, were the most familiar to me, aside from the learning curve that came with trying out Photoshop. But approaching all of these pieces with the intention to experiment has allowed me to stay relatively detached from the pieces themselves, thereby granting me absolute permission to use each prompt as an opportunity to prioritize my creative whims. These works were made to be of decent quality, but not necessarily to be anything special, so they come from a very curious and unfiltered place. I am in a stage of trying to understand what I'm interested in pursuing further as an artist, so this experience of contemplation and experimentation has been invaluable.
