Hello, my name is Lance Santana, and I am a Master of Information Management and Systems (MIMS) student at the University of California, Berkeley. I earned my B.S. in Business Administration (Information Systems) with a Data Science minor from UC Riverside, graduating with a 3.91 GPA.
My work centers on human-centered AI and data science, with a focus on educational accessibility and adaptive learning technologies. I design and build AI-driven tools that help students overcome learning barriers, combining my interests in natural language processing, machine learning, and user experience design.
At Berkeley, I serve as a D-Lab Research Consultant, supporting faculty and graduate students with data analysis and research design, and contribute to the ACE Lab, developing an adaptive AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) platform for non-literate users. Previously, I collaborated on projects involving medical conversational agents, AI-powered project management systems, and educational chatbots that assist students in generating research-based journal entries.
Beyond research, I’m deeply committed to teaching, mentorship, and inclusion in technology. As an AmeriCorps Education Fellow, course instructor, and longtime tutor, I’ve worked to make technical learning more approachable for diverse learners, particularly those with ADHD and other learning differences.
My long-term goal is to become a Machine Learning Product Manager, leading teams that build ethical, scalable, and inclusive AI solutions for education and social good.
Outside of academics, I love backpacking, traveling, and exploring new cultures and environments. I’m currently planning my next camping trip and am always looking for new ways to blend adventure, learning, and technology.
