Research directions
Biodiversity discovery and taxonomic description
Unravelling undescribed biodiversity constitutes an fundamental part of my research. Within museum collections a time lag often exists between the initial discovery of a species and its official description, but such a delay only results in lost opportunities for understanding that biodiversity. While my work mainly focuses on the diversity of the subfamily Corydoradinae, I am equally interested in other catfish families and am actively involved in their taxonomic descriptions.
Macroevolution of Siluriformes
Describing new species itself is a thrilling and rewarding process, but my ultimate goal is to resolving global questions across catfish phylogeny. My PhD project involves using an integrated approach (i.e., morphology and genomic data) to elucidate evolutionary relationships of a larger clade of Asian-African catfish with several Neotropical families.

International collaborations
As the only student from Asia in my institution, I am constantly reminded of my unique identity in my research field. I highly value my international background, as well as the benefits that come along with it. Over the past two years, I have come to realise how little academic cooperation exists between Asia and Latin America. As such, I am striving to become a bridge between institutions of these two continents, fostering knowledge exchange and further academic collaborations.
