Special Olympics North Carolina held its first Games in 1970 with 400 participants and has since grown to be recognized globally as one of the largest Special Olympics programs in the world. Nearly 40,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities participate in Special Olympics North Carolina.

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.
The goal of Special Olympics is to create an environment whereby every person with intellectual disabilities is welcome, accepted, and included. Join the dignity revolution! Help advocate for a more inclusive community for people with intellectual disabilities by taking part in one of the many opportunities to make a difference!
The Polar plunge is our spring annual philanthropy where we attend the Triad Chill Plunge at Wet'n Wild. We table and raise funds on campus and team up with one CPC sorority to help support. All donations raised go towards the Special Olympics NC
