The rocket head was part of a target rocket which emitted light at both ends, it had a range of about 5,000 yards.
My uncle Frank Palmer spent his whole working life with Lainchbuys from when he left school at age 14 until the closure of the factory in 1987. After he had passed away at age 90 I cleared out his workshop and found lots of artifacts and other stuff that the company had thrown in a skip on closure. Amongst the things I found a large number of the old rocket heads. Like myself he hated throwing stuff away that he might find a use for later.
Obviously I had to bring them home and 'hoard' them in my workshop. My grandsons were fascinated by them and had a couple each and I gave two to the Kingham archive group for their collection of artifacts. They have no practical use but I can't bear to throw them away.
