Welcome to Lafayette Library!
I am so excited to welcome our students to our beautiful space! This is my tenth year at Lafayette. I earned my Master’s in Library and Information Sciences from Pitt and have worked in libraries for more than a decade.
We’re lucky to have a fantastic print collection at Lafayette, but we also have great ebooks, audiobooks and magazines available through Sora! Students can read/listen using a browser, the app or e-readers like Kindle or Kobo. Sora is by Overdrive, the same company that most public libraries use to manage their digital collections, so you can also link library cards to your student’s account. Take advantage of this fabulous resource from DCPS and DC Public Library!
One of my goals is to get all of our readers taking advantage of the wonderful public libraries in the DC area! All of our Lafayette families can get DC Public Library cards. If you haven’t visited the branch on Connecticut Avenue, you’re missing out! Did you know that you can also get a library card in any of the local counties for free? Visit Montgomery County Public Library in Bethesda when you go shopping or eat out!
Lafayette is filled with awesome readers, and I adore being their librarian! Please, let me know if I can be of any help.
Happy Reading!

Library Schedule
In library class, students enjoy great stories, learn library and research skills, talk about books that they love, try new genres, and much more!
The library is open to grades 3-5 during SEE time daily (except Tuesday) from 2:40 to 3:08. Students may come in with teacher permission to exchange books, read quietly and work.
The library schedule is available on this website to help you track your student’s library days. Students may return books to the book return outside the library in advance of their next class, and many classrooms have library drop boxes.
Borrowing Guidelines
DCPS requires families to replace lost and ruined books. Please help your student keep track of their books and keep them away from leaky water bottles, meal times, rainy days, dogs, teething babies and other potential pitfalls. Lost and ruined books will show up on your student's account as a fine, but I cannot accept money to clear an account, only new or gently used copies.
Online Catalog
If you haven’t visited our online catalog, Follett Destiny, it’s worth a visit! You log in through Clever. In addition to searching our print collection, students can read ebooks and listen to audiobooks! Students may also put books on hold. You can also see anytime what your student has checked out from the library.
Book Fair
We will have our Scholastic book fair on December 8th through 12th. If you are available to help with the fair this year, please sign up for shifts! Volunteers worked 175 shifts last year to make our book fair a rousing, fun success!
Volunteering
Volunteers are always appreciated! Tasks include shelving, fixing books, inventorying the collection and more. I also need families to collect Lafayette books mistakenly returned to the Chevy Chase library. If you’d like to be a regular volunteer, please send me an email. I will send out a signup towards the end of the year to help with closing tasks.
Brainfuse HelpNow Tutoring
DC Public Library cardholders have free, daily access to homework help and tutoring in English and Spanish! Tutors are available online from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Students (of all ages, including adults) can get assistance with assignments, feedback on writing, review concepts, and take practice exams. Available on Clever or at www.dclibrary.org/research-and-learn/brainfuse-helpnow
DC Public Library Cards
Anyone who lives in DC is eligible for a library card! If students have a DC One Card, that also functions as a library card. A DCPL card gives your student access to free tutoring, digital resources for learning, and great books!
