As you may know, May is the Asian American and Pacific Islander History Month. City Council kicked off the month with a celebration on May 3 on the City Hall Spring Street Courtyard. Glad to see some of you could make it! LACEAAA is happy to host our own luncheon on May 23 at Mama Lu's Dumpling House (formerly CBS) at 700 N Spring St from 11:30-1:30pm. We are honored to have Diamond Bar Councilwoman Ruth Low as our guest speaker.
In addition, in the evening of May 23, the Chinese American Museum is hosting a reception for their new exhibition of Unmasking Anna May Wong, about the trailblazing Chinese American Hollywood star.
Our Lunar New Year Luncheon will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the Golden Dragon Restaurant in Chinatown. This will be the Year of the Dragon! Our original date of Feb 17 was conflicting with the annual Chinatown Parade, which we encourage you to attend, but since the restaurant is on the parade route, parking would have been severely restricted.
For the next LACEAAA Book Club, we are meeting on April 20 at 2pm.
Our next book is Mott St: A Chinese American Family's Story about Exclusion and Homecoming by Ava Chin.
Try and reserve it at your local library today so you have time to check it out, download it or listen to the audio version.
I really hope more of you will join our discussion group. I really enjoy the conversations and learning new things. So even if you don't have time to read or listen to the book, join in the discussion!

A final reminder of this Saturday's book club meeting on Clark and Division. This is a murder mystery during the time of the Japanese internment, and it follows the life of a family from LA to Manzanar to Chicago, where the oldest daughter is killed at the Clark and Williams train station.
If you haven't read it, no matter, we still welcome your input about the treatment of Japanese Americans and the concept of loyalty to your country of origin.

One of the purposes of LACEAAA is to assist its members in preparing for promotional opportunities. As the City ramps up hiring, multiple promotional opportunities are on the horizon such as the Management Analyst, Administrative Analyst, Personnel Analyst, and many more!
In an effort to facilitate opportunities for our members, we are launching a Mentoring/Mock Interview Match. We’re reaching out to LACEAAA members in senior roles with the City to be potential mentors who could provide mock interviews for members studying for promotional exams. If you are interested in participating as an interviewer, please fill out this INTEREST FORM and we’ll put you on the list to be matched with a fellow LACEAAA member who is interested in promoting. We hope to make these matches by the end of August, so please let us know about your interest as soon as possible.
What will be involved:
If you are matched with a mentee or mentees, we’ll introduce you and you can exchange contact information.
You and your match can set up a mutually agreeable time to perform the mock interview. The mock interview, including feedback, should only take about 45 minutes and may be conducted online.
We’ll provide some sample interview questions, but don’t hesitate to bring your specific expertise to the interview!
We greatly appreciate any help that you can provide and thank you so much for continuing to be a valued member!
The Administrative Analyst examination is fast approaching and LACEAAA is happy to announce a training opportunity! We will be offering a one-day online seminar on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 8:30 AM, that will cover important topics such as:

Parking after 5pm is $3 at the 101 John Aiso Street lot.
