Giovanni Abramo
Giovanni Abramo holds a Laurea in electrical engineering from the University of Rome "Sapienza" and a Master of Science in Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
In November 2023, after nearly 40 years at the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) as a Research Director, Giovanni transitioned to Universitas Mercatorum in Italy, where he is now a Full Professor of Management of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
In 2004, Giovanni founded the CNR Laboratory for Studies in Research Evaluation. In 2006, he established Research Value, a CNR spinoff company dedicated to providing research evaluation services to research institutions and governments. Since 2017, he has also held the Honorary Professor of Management title at the University of Waikato in New Zealand.
Throughout his career, Giovanni has consulted for prestigious organizations, including the United Nations, the European Commission, Italian Ministries, and various public and private entities.
His research focuses on how individuals, organizations, and countries produce and disseminate knowledge, with a special emphasis on research performance evaluation, gender equity, and cross-sector knowledge transfer. Since 2007 and up to 2024, he has published over 160 indexed publications in the field of scientometrics in journals such as Quantitative Science Studies, Scientometrics, Journal of Informetrics, JASIST, Higher Education, Research Evaluation, Research Policy, Science and Public Policy, Journal of Technology Transfer, Technovation, R&D Management, and PLoS ONE. In 2023, Giovanni was elected President and Chairman of the Board of the International Society for Scientometrics and Informetrics (ISSI).
With an MD in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Engineering and Management, he is currently associate professor at the University of Rome "Tor Vergata," where he teaches "Principles of Marketing" and "Industrial Marketing." He founded and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Research Value, a spin-off company of the Italian National Research Council (CNR). He was a visiting research fellow at the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) at Leiden University (Netherlands), research associate at the Institute for System Analysis and Computer Science of the Italian National Research Council (IASI-CNR), and member of the Evaluation Committee at the University of Udine. He holds the Italian National Scientific Qualification for full professorship in "Management Engineering." Currently, he is a member of the editorial boards of Scientometrics and Quantitative Science Studies. Previously, he served as an associate editor for the Journal of Economic Surveys and as a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Informetrics. His primary research interests include bibliometrics, research evaluation, advanced informetric models and methods, and the science of science.
Flavia Di Costa
PhD and Master degrees in Management and Engineering from the University of Rome "Tor Vergata"; Laurea in Chemical Engineering from the University of Rome "La Sapienza". Research fellow at National Research Council - CNR IASI in Rome and at University of Rome "Tor Vergata", currently she is assistant professor at Università Telematica Mercatorum. Her main research interests are: Scientometrics; Bibliometrics; Research Evaluation; Research Policy and Management; Science, technology and innovation.
Tindaro Cicero graduated cum laude in Statistics from the University of Messina in 2008, earned a Master of Science degree in 2011 and a PhD degree in 2012 in Business Engineering at University of Rome "Tor Vergata", with a thesis on the use of citations as a tool of research evaluation. He is currently Assistant Professor (RTT) at the Universitas Mercatorum. Until 2024, he served as Evaluation Officer and Leader of the ‘National Scientific Qualification and PhD Program Accreditation’ unit at ANVUR. Since 2011 he has published over 50 publications, with the majority appearing in international journals indexed in Web of Science and Scopus about research evaluation, bibliometric indicators and their policy implications. He is an active reviewer for various international journals in the field of scientometrics.
Cristiano Giuffrida is an Associate Professor in the Computer Science Department at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. His research interests span across several aspects of Computer Systems, with a focus on systems security. He received a Ph.D. cum laude from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in 2014. He was awarded the Roger Needham Award at EuroSys and the Dennis M. Ritchie Award at SOSP for the best PhD dissertation in Computer Systems in 2015 (Europe and worldwide). He was also awarded a VMware Early Career Faculty Award in 2020, a Jochen Liedtke Young Researcher Award at EuroSys in 2022, and the Dutch Prize for ICT research in 2023.
Master Degree and PhD in Management Engineering at University of Rome "Tor Vergata", working mainly on key factors enabling cross-sector research collaborations. She is currently chief AI Engineer at LaBella&Partners a business consulting and service company.
Alessandro Caprasecca graduated in mechanical engineering at University of Roma Tre in 2003, achieved a Master degree in Management (2004) and a Ph.D. in Engineering and Management (2008) at the University of Rome "Tor Vergata". As a Ph.D. student he has been member of the Laboratory for Studies on Research and Technology Transfer, where he worked on evaluation of public research institutions and the analysis of drivers of scientific performance. He is currently engaged at Italian Custom Agency.
He graduated M.S. in Electronics Engineering, Magna cum Laude, in 2000 at University of Rome La Sapienza . He then got his Master in Business Administration, (M.B.A) and Ph.D. in Management & Engineering at University of Rome Tor Vergata. After being university researcher in Electronic and Computer Science, he joined MBDA Italia S.p.A. (the missile defense system company in Gruppo Leonardo) as System Analyst & Performance Assessor. He then moved to McKinsey&Co. Italia, where he worked in the FIG sector maturing specific competences in Banking and Insurance. He joined MCC S.p.A. (Gruppo Capitalia) as Head of Post Sales Services for Leasing and Corporate Credit and after the merge of Capitalia and UniCredit he moved to UniCredit Group Holding Company as Staff of Deputy Group CEO. In 2008 he joined BNL BNPParibas Group, with progressively higher responsibilities. He is now CEO and general manager at Numia S.p.A.
Master Degree in Management Engineering at University of Bologna and PhD at Rome "Tor Vergata", he actually is associate Professor in Entrepreneurship and Innovation for the SDGs at the Centre for Technology Entrepreneurship, Technical University of Denmark (DTU). His main research interests are on the intersection of entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainable development.
After graduating (summa cum laude) in Electronic Engineering at University of Ancona (now Marche Polytechnic University) in 2001, he achieved the Master degree in Business Engineering at University of Rome "Tor Vergata" in 2005. At the Laboratory for Studies on Research and Technology Transfert of that same university he successfully concluded a PhD program in Management Engineering in 2010. His main research fields were university-industry collaborations, bibliometrics and IP (Intellectual Property) Strategy. Since 2002 he has been working in the management and high tech engineering consulting, in Altran Italia SpA as Senior Consultant and in Next Ingegneria dei Sistemi SpA as Project Manager. Actually, he is Engineering Manager at Leonardo s.p.a.
Fulvio Viel graduated in Engineering and Management at University of Rome "Tor Vergata" in 2002, where he holds the Master degree in Business Engineering in 1999. Since 2002, he Joined the Regional Government of Lazio, delivering infomation systems. As consultant, he joined the National Research Council of Italy applying Project Management to complex training projects. He is interested in Project Management for Information Systems. PhD in Management Engineering at the University of Rome "Tor Vergata" in 2012, his main research interests are on bibliometric methodologies for research evaluation. He is currently area manager for integrated social system plannig at the Lazio Region administration.
