ABOUT US - Who we are
The Laboratory for Studies in Research Evaluation, REV (previously named Laboratory for Studies on Research and Technology Transfer, RTT), of the Institute for System Analysis and Computer Science (IASI) of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), was set up in 2002 with the aim of contributing to the development of New Public Management applied to research systems, which was rapidly expanding in Northern Europe. Since the very beginning, the REV Lab has focused its studies on research evaluation systems and their applications to inform research policy and the management of research institutions.
The REV Lab, co-founded by Giovanni Abramo of IASI-CNR, and Ciriaco Andrea D'Angelo of the Department of Management of the School of Engineering of the University of Rome Tor Vergata, both with a background in engineering and management, has been able to attract along time other human resources with backgrounds in computer sciences and statistics. This multidisciplinary team has been able to investigate different aspects of research evaluation, and develop assessment methodologies of research performance on a large scale.
In 2006, with the aim of exploiting research results, the REV Lab budded a CNR spin-off company, Research Value, which provides research evaluation services, thanks to a partnership with Thomson Reuters and a license agreement to use their Web of Science bibliographic data. To date, over thirty universities and research institutions (including the Ministry of Research) have acquired research evaluation services from Research Value.
