About - CGLA

The Chhattisgarh Library Association (CGLA) is a registered society under the Chhattisgarh Societies Registration Act, 1973. It was officially registered on February 13, 2024. The CGLA aims to develop high standards of librarianship and library and information services. Its core objective is to provide a common platform for library and information science professionals to exchange the latest updates and knowledge, and to improve the quality of library and information services. The association was mainly founded by Dr. Kundan Jha, who is recognized as the Father of the Public Library Movement in Chhattisgarh due to his significant contributions. Dr. Kundan Jha is a Founder Member and First President of Chhattisgarh Library Association. 

The Association, existing-to-develop high standards of librarianship and library and information services. The core objective of CGLA is to provide a common platform to library and information science professionals for exchange of latest updates, new knowledge, improve the quality of library and information centers and functioning for the welfare of Library Professionals. The CGLA is dedicated for the holistic development of library profession, therefore frequently organizes various events like seminars, thought-provoking discussions, brainstorming sessions for insights to conceptualize innovative research proposals are the usual activities under the canvas of association. The association also frequently strives to organize invited lectures, workshops for professional and students on contemporary advancements of library sciences.


Objectives: 


The Chhattisgarh Library Association, since its inception, has provided a wide variety of services and programs to its members and others seeking technical support or advice. It promotes the furtherance of the library movement in Chhattisgarh, the training of librarians, and the improvement of their status. Additionally, it encourages research in library science and collaborates with international organizations with similar objectives. The association also publishes bulletins, periodicals, books, etc., to realize its goals, assists in establishing libraries and information centers, and advocates for appropriate library legislation in India. Furthermore, it provides a common forum for individuals engaged or interested in library and information work through conferences and meetings to discuss professional, technical, and organizational issues. It also accredits institutions offering library and information science education and training and promotes standards, norms, and guidelines for managing Library and Information Systems and Services.
