Accommodations

There are over 1.75 million hotel rooms available throughout metropolitan Tokyo with services to suit every traveller. In order to limit the dizzying array of choices, we have listed below a handful of hotels we have visited and consider worthy of recommending to visitors from abroad. Please be aware that accommodations tend to be quite modest in size, with rooms in the 12m² to 28m² range. The lists below are in increasing levels of service, though rest assured that all of them offer the world-renown Japanese hospitality.

Metropolitan Tokyo is made up of 31 municipalities, including cities, towns, and villages. The university campus is located in a largely residential area of Hachioji City in western Tokyo where accommodations are very limited. The nearest area well-equipped for visitors is the city of Tachikawa, approximately 20-minutes by monorail to campus, and our recommendation for workshop participants. Those interested in staying within central Tokyo itself might be interested in the Shinjuku area, but please be aware that transportation to Chuo University will be approximately one hour by train via Takahatafudoh with a connection to the monorail that stops at the university. Prices for Tachikawa hotels will generally be more reasonable than those in Shinjuku.

Reservations may be made through all of the usual international online booking agencies, in addition to some that are local to Japan, as well as directly through each hotel's own website (see links on this page). AirBnB is also available in Tokyo for those interested.

Tachikawa and Shinjuku are both rather far from the airports. You may wish to consult the information on Ground Transportation we have prepared.
