Image to text ocr scanner - convert docs to Word & txt in 20 languages
Privacy Policy
Last Updated: 1st Sep 2026
In short: Your documents, scanned images, and extracted text are never uploaded anywhere — all scanning and OCR happen entirely on your device. The App uses an internet connection only for two things: showing ads (via Google AdMob) and checking for app updates (via Google Play). We do not collect, sell, or share your document content with anyone.
1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how the Text Extractor Android application ("the App", "we", "our") handles information. Text Extractor is an offline document scanning and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) utility that converts scanned documents into editable Word (.docx) or plain text (.txt) files, entirely on your device.
2. What We Don't Collect
No documents, scanned photos, or extracted text are ever uploaded, transmitted, or shared with us or any third party. All scanning, OCR, editing, and file export happen entirely on your device.
The App does not require sign-in, accounts, or authentication of any kind, and we do not collect names, emails, or identity information directly.
The App does not use analytics or crash-reporting services.
3. Advertising (Google AdMob)
The App uses Google AdMob to display advertisements, which help keep the App free to use. AdMob may collect and process certain information to serve ads, which can include:
Advertising identifiers (such as your Android Advertising ID)
General device information (device model, OS version)
Approximate location derived from IP address
Ad interaction data (impressions, clicks)
This information is collected and processed by Google according to Google's own privacy policy, not by us directly. We do not receive or store your personal data from AdMob — it is handled entirely between your device and Google. You can review or reset your advertising identifier, and opt out of personalized ads, from your device's Settings → Privacy → Ads (or Google Settings → Ads), and you can learn more at Google's Ads Policy page and Google Privacy Policy.
4. App Updates (Google Play In-App Updates)
The App uses the Google Play In-App Updates service to check whether a newer version is available and prompt you to update. This only communicates your currently installed version code with Google Play — it does not involve any of your personal data or document content.
5. On-Device Processing
All document scanning, image processing, and text recognition (OCR) are performed entirely on your device's hardware using on-device technologies (including Google's ML Kit and the open-source Tesseract OCR engine). Your scanned images and extracted text never leave your device.
6. Information Stored on Your Device
The App stores the following data locally, on your device only — never on our servers, because we have none:
Data Where it's stored Purpose
Exported documents (.docx / .txt) Downloads/Text Extractor/ folder So you can access and reuse the files you created
Scanned photos (optional) Pictures/TextExtractor (device gallery), only if you enable this setting Lets you keep a copy of the original scanned image
App preferences (theme, language, favorites, toggles) Local app storage on your device Remembers your settings between sessions
OCR language files (Urdu/Arabic models) Internal app storage Enables offline recognition for these languages
You can delete any of this data at any time by removing the relevant files or clearing the App's data/storage from your device settings.
7. Permissions the App Uses
Permission Why it's needed
Camera To let you scan physical documents directly within the App.
Internet Used only by the Google AdMob SDK (to serve ads) and the Google Play In-App Updates SDK (to check for updates). Never used to transmit your documents or extracted text.
Access Network State Lets AdMob and the Play In-App Updates SDK check for an active connection before making their network requests.
Vibrate To provide optional haptic feedback when a scan finishes (can be turned off in Settings).
Storage (legacy Android versions only) To read and save your exported files on older Android versions. Not used or required on modern Android versions, which use scoped storage or the Photo Picker automatically.
8. Third-Party Services
The App uses Google Play Services components (Document Scanner and ML Kit Text Recognition) and the open-source Tesseract4Android library, all of which process your document data locally on your device — they do not transmit your documents, images, or extracted text to Google or any other party. Separately, the App also integrates Google AdMob (for advertising) and Google Play In-App Updates, described in Sections 3 and 4 above, which do use the internet — but strictly for ads and update checks, never for your document content.
9. Children's Privacy
The App is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal information directly from anyone, including children. Ad delivery through Google AdMob follows Google's own policies for age-appropriate advertising; we do not configure the App to target ads specifically at children.
10. Data Security
Your documents, scanned images, and extracted text never leave your device, so there is no risk of that content being intercepted, exposed in a data breach, or accessed by us. Any data handled by AdMob or Play In-App Updates is secured according to Google's own security practices.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time — for example, when we add new features or SDKs. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
