1976年イングランド生まれ。英国で生物医学と美術を学んだ後に、2015年に京都市立芸術大学にて博士号を取得。博士論文「空想主義的客観論:現代美術におけるダイアグラム的思考」は梅原猛賞を受賞し、また芸術と科学を横断する学術論文誌「レオナルド・ジャーナル」(MIT出版)のトップリストに選出された。京都を拠点に世界各地で作品を発表している。
Michael Whittle was born in England in 1976. After studying biomedicine and then art in the U.K., acquired a doctorate from Kyoto City University of Arts in 2015. His PhD thesis “Romantic Objectivism: diagrammatic thought in contemporary art” won the Takeshi Umehara prize and was selected by MIT Press' Leonardo for it's top 10 list of research in art and science. Whittle lives and works in Kyoto and exhibits and lectures internationally.
