I am a well-seasoned researcher, problem solver, communicator, facilitator, and strategic thinker. I am formally trained as a sociologist and bring a mix of public sector, volunteer, and academic experiences to my work.
I am personable, engaging, responsive, and detail-oriented. I am always looking for a good conversation, a lively debate, or some musing over current social problems. I am most eager to explore leadership opportunities, business challenges, networking relationships, and/or new challenges in research or policy.
Historically, my areas of interest include youth justice, criminology, socio-legal studies, criminal justice system diversion, discipline in schools, criminal law and procedure, law reform, qualitative methods, measurement, and official statistics. I have been involved in projects in the areas of youth punishment in education and law, school discipline, workplace sexual harassment, public criminology, criminal sentencing, family law, impaired driving, and performance measurement.
My passions are in translating research into practical recommendations, mobilizing the collective wisdom of experts and groups, leading large-scale business or research projects, making recommendations to decision-makers and groups, assessing legal and social service policies and practices, undertaking innovative and new research or programming projects, and building bridges among individuals and groups. These activities help me, and help others, confront new and old problems in policy, research, practice, and programming.
I completed my doctoral studies in Sociology at Carleton University. I was previously a graduate student in the Department of Criminology at the University of Ottawa and an undergraduate student in the Institute of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Carleton University.
