In late 2024, I was offered a position at Universal Orlando Resort as a Spring 2025 Public Relations Intern after an extended and competitive application and selection process. I joined the Public Relations team in January 2025, where I spent the next several months tracking media sentiment, creating press materials, and assisting in the coordination of media activation events in preparation for the grand opening of Epic Universe, the first major theme park to open in the United States in 25 years. I assisted in many aspects of both the Media Preview (where 200+ media and influencers were hosted) and the Epic Universe Grand Opening (where 600+ media and influencers were hosted). During the week of grand opening, I stayed on site and assisted with influencer and relations and other duties as assigned, particularly during the blue carpet and Grand Opening Celebration events. All in all, this was a incredible and challenging once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I'm proud I got to be a part of.
In May 2025, I graduated from the University of Central Florida with my Bachelor of Arts in Advertising and Public Relations with a minor in Writing and Rhetoric.
During my time at UCF, I was accepted into the competitive Nicholson School of Communications Advertising and PR degree program after taking the entrance exam and being selected among the applicant pool based off the exam results and grade point average.
In addition to my academic pursuits, I was actively involved in the UCF community. I held executive board positions with both UCF Quotes and UCF Late Knights, and served as an Academic Peer Advisor for the College of Sciences Advising Services for two years. I was also a recipient of the Bright Futures Academic Scholarship throughout my time at UCF. Read more here.
In July 2024, I was nominated and selected as the Florida Public Relations Association Orlando Area Chapter's 2024 Intern of the Year for my work in the role of Senior Public Relations Intern at Toho Water Authority. I was nominated by my supervisors on the Toho Communications team and selected for this competitive distinction by a committee of communications professionals based off of my portfolio of work at Toho and testimonials from my team.
At the conclusion of my time as Marketing Director for the UCF Late Knights Agency, I was awarded the distinction of the "Apollo's Hero Award" for my adaptability and perseverance in the role, as well as maintaining a positive attitude through challenging times: "This certificate is given to Kyla Williams for remaining positive when the going gets tough."
On February 9, 2024, UCF Late Knights hosted their first "Late Knight Prom" which had over 600 attendees. My marketing plan and execution for this event communicated the message that this was a night for all UCF students to dress up and have fun dancing and hanging out with their friends, especially for student's whose high school proms were cancelled by COVID-19.
During my internship with Prego Expo, the other interns and I conducted communications with prospective ambassadors for Prego Expo events. In my individual efforts, I was able to identify Tabria Majors (model, dancer, and influencer) as fitting influencer for Prego Expo's influencer program. I informed her about Prego Expo's createHER event and influencer program, and persuaded her to become involved in the program. This allowed for Prego Expo's event to be exposed to her audience of over 2 million across Instagram and Tik Tok.
At the conclusion of my time as Chair of the Media Committee and Event Volunteer on the Late Knights Volunteer Council, I was awarded the Most Active Member distinction based on my event attendance and council participation.
