Kirjutamisel on toetutud teoreetilistele lähenemistele, mis rõhutavad laste arengu terviklikkust, nende aktiivsust ja vajadust arvestada õpetamisel laste arengu taseme ja iseärasustega, samuti nende uskumuste, kogemuste ja teadmistega. Teisalt teadvustatakse, et õpetajatel (nagu ka lapsevanematel) on tähtis roll laste arengu suunamisel.
