KUMEC Annual Primary Care Conference
We have fantastic keynote speakers lined up (all GPs this year!) - Professor Hilary Neve will be discussing Threshold Concepts in Medical Education, followed by Drs Rupal Shah and Bob Clarke discussing their new consultation model as an antidote to industrialised medicine; through meaning making in consultations.
Through all our keynotes, interactive workshops and lightening talks (students and tutors) we will be exploring our theme of “teaching outside the box”. We will be reflecting on and sharing experiences that shape the way we teach, learn or practice medicine. We will also have a focus on well-being throughout the day, with an opportunity to join workshops on the arts and doctors' mental health and a somatic bodywork and sound bath, as well as experience breathwork and rap affirmations!
Our final keynote will be our very own Professor Anne Stephenson talking on "The Long Apprenticeship: What Being Human - and 47 Years as an Academic GP - Has Really Taught Me". We will close with an award ceremony followed by a drinks reception.

About The KUMEC Teacher Development (TD) Team
Dr Rini Paul (She/Her)
Rini is one of our KUMEC Teacher Development Leads. She is involved in faculty training, support, evaluation and quality assurance of practices. Rini is a GP in Islington, North London, a GP appraiser, Programme Director for Multiprofessional Faculty at her local Training Hub and recently became a Trainer for Coaching for Health. Her main interests are Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion - she is a member of a national group DIMAH (Diversity in Medicine and Healthcare) and the Medical schools EDI alliance. Other areas of interest include multidisciplinary reflective groups particularly Schwartz Rounds, mentoring, Narrative Medicine and Clinical Reasoning.@EducatingRini
Dr Laila Abdullah (She/Her)
Laila is our KUMEC Teacher Development Lead along with Rini, involved in recruiting, supporting and providing training events for our network of community teachers. Laila is a GP in North London. Prior to working in TD, she worked within the KUMEC Stage 2 team and the UCL-GMC team. She has interests in students' self-regulated learning in the clinical environment, teaching through remote consulting, and integrating cultural competency into the curriculum, and 'assessment' - she is currently a member of the Medical Licensing Assessment item writing group. Roz Miah (She/Her)
Roz joined as the Teacher Development Operations Officer in 2023. She coordinates Teacher Development workshops, events, and recruitment and has been instrumental in organising the KUMEC Conference bringing her creative talents with her. Roz is dedicated to promoting Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion in education, fostering an environment where growth and learning are accessible to all.
