The latest scientific evidence shows that food environmental impact can be drastically reduced by switching from the current average western diet to a more plant-based diet.
In August 2019, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), i.e. the United Nation body for assessing the science related to climate change, released the report Climate Change and Land. They report that the best possible diet to fight climate change is a 100% plant-based diet. For example, it was calculated that a global switch from the current diets to plant-based diets, in 2010, would have led to up to a 30% net reduction of total GHG emissions.
Therefore, we propose that KTH sets plant-based food as the default food option, yet giving each single person the possibility to choose a different food option.
