Books For Change, Biblioburro, & Learning from First-Year Maestras
Our day started with learning about interactive read-alouds with Alice Lumpkin Ensley. Books for Change USA purchased diverse picture books for our pre-service teachers so they can begin to build their class libraries. We also had Luis Soriano, “Biblioburro,” join us via Zoom from Colombia to talk about his work in rural areas, riding his donkeys for 2-3 hours to take books to children. We were inspired by his love for literacy and for teaching kids and adults to read. Our day finished with a plática with two recent graduates (Alondra Flores and Keyri Trejo- Rivera) who came to talk about their first weeks of school as first-year teachers.
Georgia Association of Teacher Educators (GATE) Research Presentations
Four of our Latinx Pre-Service Teachers presented at the Georgia Association of Teacher Educators (GATE) conference in October 2023. They shared two outstanding presentations focused on their undergraduate research. We are so proud of them! KSU Bagwell College
