KSS PAC invites you to take part in the next phase of the KSS Healing Forest Project.
This Working Group will bring the consultation vision to life and will focus on the project’s delivery phase, overseeing the transition from concept to construction.
To start, we are looking for three people to establish the Terms of Reference for the committee so we can move forward and bring on more volunteers for specified roles.
A Healing Forest is a beautiful landscape stewarded by the health, relationships with nature and personal well being.
In a time of ecological anxiety and climate change, a healing forest is a way to contribute towards carbon storage and environmental restoration. When we create resilient biodiverse ecosystems, we take the future back into our hands and build Hope for the Future.
Building and maintaining a healing forest means giving back to the land and taking care of the life that provides for us. This mutually beneficial relationship, often referred to as reciprocity by Indigenous peoples comes from a connection between people and nature (Suzuki & Stirbys, 2024) as we care for our legacy and watch it grow and change.
The National Healing Forest Initiative (NHFI) aims to create a network of forests and green spaces across Canada where Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples come together in the spirit reconciliation. These Healing Forests will be spaces that promote healing, reflection, meditation and sharing. Learn more about the initiative here.
The KSS Healing Forest will be located in the area that the outdoor basketball courts used to inhabit beside the gym. This location is adjacent to the school garden space is accessible to students, families, and community members.
