How to Participate

2nd Virtual Science Fair for 2021!

For the second year KJAS will be hosting a Virtual Science Fair. This fair is open to all current Kansas middle school and high school students (6th-12th grade for the '20-'21 school year). This fair will consist of two rounds. The first round will include judges reviewing your written report and a short (about 5 minute) video about your project. The second round will include a call-back of students who qualify for a real-time presentation and Q&A with judges via Zoom. Students selected for the KJAS Special Award will have to opportunity to represent Kansas at the American Junior Academy of Science meeting in next February.

To enter, submit your info with the Google Form at the bottom. You must have the following ready beforehand to include in your submission:

  • PDF of your research report (info about writing a report and rubrics can be found in Resources)

  • a link to a short video (5 minutes) about your research on YouTube (find instructions to load an unlisted video here)

  • Publicity Waiver (PDF form)

  • Mentor Statement (PDF form)

  • Human Subject Authorization Form, if applicable (PDF form)

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO JOIN KJAS? (Does not pertain to 2021)

Any middle or high school student who completes a research project during the year of participation. In order to participate in the KJAS, you MUST compete in a regional science fair to qualify for the Kansas State Science and Engineering Fair (KSSEF). Students participating in the KSSEF will automatically be considered for the Kansas Junior Academy of Science Special Award. Recipients of this special award will be invited to represent the state and the Kansas Academy of Science at the American Junior Academy of Science national meeting the following February.
