Technology and Safety
The safety and protection of digital learners in a 21st century classroom is a top priority of educators today. Hamilton (2016) states, “Primary students should learn basic online safety and courtesy, much in the same way they learn proper classroom behaviors.” GoGuardian Teacher supports the filtering of inappropriate and unsafe internet websites, however, it also provides opportunities for classroom management and supports positive interactions with technology. Educators know the positive benefits of technology outweigh the negative, but there is a strong need to implement strategies to support students learning digital citizenship skills as they grow and develop as 21st century learners.
The Web 2.0 tool, GoGuardian Teacher, will better prepare teachers and students for the safe, ethical, and legal use of technology in the classroom and the world in which we live.
