We are deeply disappointed by the divisive and damaging language used by the Prime Minister in his recent speech. While we are a non-partisan organisation, we believe it is essential to hold those in power to account—whoever they may be—when they use rhetoric that fuels division and stokes fear.
The UK is a country built on the contributions of people from all over the world. Refugees and migrants are not threats—they are our neighbours, our friends, and an essential part of our shared future.
Rhetoric that frames immigration as a danger only serves to dehumanise those who have already endured unimaginable hardship.
Words like these don’t exist in a vacuum—they lead to policy decisions, fuel hate, and embolden those who wish to divide us.
We call on our leaders, including the Government, to remain true to their values and to the values of a country that welcomes, includes and learns from those who come here seeking safety, hope, and the chance to build a life.
People have always moved—and always will. What matters is how we respond: with humanity, compassion and care.
Now is not the time to turn our backs. Now is the time to stand together.
